Optometrist:
The mission of the profession of optometry is to fulfill the vision and eyecare needs of the public through clinical care, research and education, all of which enhance the quality of life. Doctors of optometry are independent primary health care providers who examine, diagnose, treat and manage diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as diagnose systemic conditions.
Some of the services that your optometrist can provide: comprehensive eye examinations, prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses and fittings, treatment for conditions such as "red eye" and allergies, removal of foreign objects from the eye, therapy for binocular vision disorders, therapy for vision-related learning difficulties, devices for sub-normal vision (magnifiers, optical aids). See Eyecare Specialty Services.
San Francisco Optometric Society is the local affiliate of the California Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Member doctors are committed to ensuring that the public receives the highest quality of vision care. Leaders in their profession, SFOS doctors participate in vision screenings, provide free eyecare services through the California Vision Project, and make vision care information available to the public. The SFOS can also provide speakers for community events; contact Dr. Gooderman at DrSFG@worldnet.att.net.
